Equity and Diversity Conference

The Equity and Diversity Conference is an annual event hosted by the Division of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access at the University of North Texas. The conference brings together hundreds of students, educators, and professionals who are committed to equity, access, and inclusion in higher education, but is also open to any community members interested in diversity and inclusion topics.

Each year the conference is keynoted by a speaker with relevant knowledge, skills, and experience related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and/or social justice. Past speakers have included Bakari Sellers, Dr. Melissa Harris-Perry, Dr. Derald Wing Sue, Hill Harper, and Soledad O’Brien.

Diversity Speaker Series

Diversity & Inclusion is proud to present the IDEA Diversity Speaker Series, a series that features distinguished leaders and experts to inspire campus dialogue, community engagement and learning about the national narrative on diversity and inclusion. The speakers include scholars, thought leaders and diversity professionals whose research, scholarship, leadership and advocacy enhance the university's efforts to present diverse ideas, perspectives and viewpoints to inspire greater understanding and appreciation for diversity and inclusion.

Diversity Film Series

Diversity & Inclusion is proud to present the InterCultural Cinema, a series that features distinguished leaders and experts to inspire campus dialogue, community engagement and learning about the national narrative on diversity and inclusion. The speakers include scholars, thought leaders and diversity professionals whose research, scholarship, leadership and advocacy enhance the university's efforts to present diverse ideas, perspectives and viewpoints to inspire greater understanding and appreciation for diversity and inclusion.

Student Diversity Advisory Council (SDAC)

The Student Diversity Advisory Council (SDAC) is a standing university-wide council that serves as a student advisory board to the Diversity & Inclusion Office. The SDAC gathers student representatives from colleges across the university to assist with the implementation of diversity, campus climate, equity, and accountability policies and practices.

The SDAC provides an opportunity for student representatives to share their perspectives on various implementations of diversity and inclusion strategies in their respective colleges and/or across the University. The SDAC is charged to:

  • Serve as an extension of the Office for Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) 
  • Each semester the council will read an assigned book, paired with facilitated discussions, regarding aspects of Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Serve as a resource for the Division of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Access (IDEA), and the Office for Diversity & Inclusion, to improve campus diversity and inclusion efforts.
  • Work with faculty and staff to create plans that better reach the student body
  • Increase awareness and intention about addressing student needs and concerns. 
  • Use various forms of communication/media for outreach to students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
