Kathleen Hobson (they, them, theirs)

Director

Originally from Ohio, Kathleen received their Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Ohio University in 2007 and their Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from the University of Akron in 2011. They are excited to be starting their second graduate degree in UNT’s Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. Kathleen has worked in higher education full-time for ten years and started their journey in Housing and Residence Life at Alfred State College in Alfred, NY. They moved to Denton in 2014 to open UNT’s Pride Alliance, where they currently serve as Director. Kathleen is also a proud founding and executive board member of PRIDENTON. Their previous Queer work includes five years on ACPA’s Coalition for Gender Identity and Sexuality, four years as Southwest Region Rep for the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals, three years on OUTreach Denton’s Steering Committee, and two years on the (Dallas) Black Tie Board of Directors.

They describe themselves as a white, queer, genderqueer/trans/non-binary person who navigates the world with anxiety, depression, and neurodivergence. Kathleen is a Capricorn and a Slytherin, enjoys spending time with their cats Ailbhe and Séamus, working on home and furniture projects, and planning trips to see their family and Queer Sibs.

Jamal King (they, them, theirs)

Assistant Director

Jamal earned their Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree with a minor in Human Services and Social Work at UNT and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Educational Psychology with a concentration in Family Policy and Program Administration. Jamal’s education and research has centered around gender and sexuality justice, community and sense of belonging, and the diversity of family and relationship structures. Their queer-centered work and experience started as an executive-level leader for the student LGBTQ+ organization on Texas Christian University’s campus for 3 years and as organizer and chair of a regional LGBTQ+ leadership and resource conference there for 2 years. Currently, they serve on OUTreach Denton’s Steering Committee, on the Board of Directors for the Midwest Institute for Sexuality And Gender Diversity, and as founding co-chair and current Interim President for the UNT Gender and Sexuality Employee Resource Group.

Jamal describes themselves as a Black, queer, trans/nonbinary person living with PTSD and anxiety. They value authenticity, unfiltered conversations, and passionate discussions. Whenever they are not busy dismantling systems of oppression, Jamal enjoys spending time playing video games/Dungeons & Dragons with their partners and friends, trying out new recipes, and baking as much as possible.

Mari Ocampo (they, them, theirs)

Student Assistant

Mari was born and raised in the North Texas area and has been makin’ good trouble here since. Her mother is a retired music teacher with a passion for Mariachi, that Mari shares, and who is also a UNT alumni from El Paso, TX. Mari’s abuelita was a maid, store owner, and flower lover from Juarez, MX. Mari’s father is from Michoacan, MX, where the monarch butterflies start their migration. Mari’s father migrated to this country in his early twenties and learned mechanic skills while being a gas station attendant. He eventually opened his own business. Mari’s abuelo was a value-driven farmer and father of nine who loved dominos.

Mari earned their bachelor of arts in Anthropology and French at Southern Methodist University and graduated in 2012. They are in their first year at the UNT’s Master of Science Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. Mari was drawn to healing work by their experience navigating the mental health system, they are Bipolar, and by the deep need for mental health skills and stigma breaking they saw in themselves, their family and friends, and broader circles. Prior to returning to grad school, Mari worked on policy and culture change via community organizations and learned challenging yet beautiful lessons alongside youth, immigrants and their families, women and genderqueer folks, and formerly incarcerated people. They are two years sober and have a big heart for the recovery community. Mari identifies as a disabled bi queer latine & Tejana, a recovering addict, and are genderfluid. They have a six-year-old pup named Sunny that is their familiar. They love arts and crafts, bouldering, yoga, karaoke, keeping their two plants alive, board games, watching DnD campaigns, and creating sober spaces for experiencing joy, playfulness, and queerness.

Natalie Crawford (they, them, theirs)

Student Assistant

Natalie is the Graphic Designer Student Assistant for the Pride Alliance. As part of this role, they create all of the posters, graphics, and social media images. They are a Communication Design major with a plan on minoring in LGBTQ Studies. Natalie is always excited to help people, and follows their life motto: Be happy and make others happy. In their free time, they are listening to musicals, hanging out with friends, or playing video games in their room.

David Munoz Sarabia (they, them, theirs)

Student Assistant

David is the Social Media Coordinator for the Pride Alliance. They are a Senior double majoring in Digital Retailing and Political Science. David is proud to be queer and Latinx! David is involved on campus. They have been the Student Body Vice-President, UPC Member, College of Science Ambassador, SGA Senator, and currently are an Ambassador for the Student Alumni Association and the President of the Latinx Hispanic Student Union. In their free time, they are vibing to music, hanging out in the Union, or binge watching a show on Netflix. After UNT, they are interested in pursuing a Masters in Higher Education.

Em Raney (he, him, his; they, them, theirs)

Student Assistant

Em is the Clothing Closet Coordinator for the Pride Alliance. As part of their role in the Pride Alliance, they take on managing the OUTfits Clothing Closet and keeping the space fresh, accessible, and welcoming for all students. Em is a first-year student pursuing a Studio Art major. They also plan to participate in the UNT SSDP (Students for Sensible Drug Policy). In their free time, they are crocheting, drawing, or hanging out with friends.
