Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

In 1994, Congress passed the King Holiday and Service Act, designating the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a National Day of Service, and charged the Corporation for National and Community Service with leading this effort. Taking place each year on the third Monday in January, the MLK Day of Service is the only federal holiday observed as a National Day of Service.

The University of North Texas and Denton community come together to reflect, celebrate and highlight Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the impact that he had on our communities and our country. During this day of service, we call for communities to work together in providing solutions to our many, pressing national social justice and equity issues. The MLK Day of Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King's vision. Each year, we partner with various campus and community partners to serve, keeping in mind that MLK Day is a day on, not a day off.

This year, we will host our 5th Annual MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 16, 2023.
