Marcos A. Villarreal grew up in Stafford, Texas, right outside of Houston. Coming from an educational background, his goal in life was to teach. After graduating high school, Marcos attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX studying Biology with a concentration in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology with a minor in Combined Sciences. During his time at SFA, he joined the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity where he grew his leadership and organizational skills. After graduation, he received his teacher's certification and started his journey in education as a middle school science teacher in Killeen, TX. He then continued his journey in Austin, TX as a Chemistry/Physics teacher before ultimately deciding to continue his education and at the University of Texas-San Antonio pursuing a Master's in Higher Education Administration. There he worked as a Graduate Assistant in the Student Leadership Center learning about leadership development and theory. After 2 years, he received his master's degree and started his higher education career at Texas A&M University-Galveston as the Diversity Education Specialist. This role allowed him to solidify his interests in diversity and equity work and has set him on a journey for the future. Moving into the role of Latinx Student Services Coordinator is exciting. In his free time, Marcos enjoys cooking, baking, watching movies, reading, traveling, and learning different recipes!
