Letter from the Assistant Vice President

Title IX May 2020 updates

Dear UNT Community,

On May 6, 2020, the Department of Education Office for Civil Rights announced significant changes to the Title IX regulations that govern how sexual misconduct accusations are handled on college campuses. The new rules, available for review , will go into effect on August 14, 2020. In light of these changes, which will require substantial modifications to the manner in which we process complaints of sexual misconduct, I reach out to you today to reaffirm UNT’s commitment to maintaining a caring community and an environment free from acts of sexual misconduct, and to supporting those affected by sexual misconduct. As we work to implement these new regulations and make adjustments to UNT policies and procedures, our pledge to our community is unchanged. We remain dedicated to combating sexual misconduct and all other violations of UNT nondiscrimination policy.

Among our top priorities is maintaining a working and learning environment where all members of the community can enjoy the benefits of UNT, free from sex discrimination, including sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, dating and domestic violence. UNT provides resources and services available to support and assist employees and students:

At UNT, our caring and creative community empowers our students to thrive in a rapidly changing world. While these regulations will require us to stretch and grow together, one thing remains the same - we are committed to providing an environment that ensures our students will be the innovative leaders of tomorrow.

Please review the new policies and procedures once they are released and contact me, UNT’s Title IX Coordinator, with questions or concerns. Thank you.

With Mean Green Pride,

Eve Shatteen Bell, J.D.
Assistant Vice President, Director of Equal Opportunity, Title IX and ADA Coordinator
